Changing A Tyre

It’s not surprising to know that many drivers on the road do not know how to change a tyre, in case of an emergency. This skill isn’t taught during driving lessons and it’s quite a shame. Below is a step-by-step guide on how to change a tyre.

  1. Before you start, make sure your vehicle is parked in a safe place and on flat surface.
  2. Switch on your hazard lights and then take out the jack, wrench and spare tyre in preparation for the next few steps.
  3. Using the wrench, start to loosen the lug nuts on the wheel. You may need to remove the hubcap depending on the design of your wheel.
  4. Check your car manual to find where the jack should be placed and then use the jack to lift the car off the ground.
  5. Now it’s time to pull the tyre off the car, so take off the lug nuts and then proceed in removing the tyre.
  6. Fit the new tyre onto the car, line up the lug nuts and then put them on but do not tighten fully. This should be done after the car is lowered.
  7. Using the jack, lower the car down to ground level and then remove.
  8. Now that the vehicle is on the ground, you can tighten the lug nuts fully.
