Getting an Adapted Car

If you have a disability or aren’t able to use a particular part of a car, then you may be able to get an adapted car. This might be incredibly expensive, but there are often schemes that will help to make a car more affordable for you. If you are thinking about getting a car that is adapted to meet your needs, then it is worth thinking about what you would need.

For some people with disabilities, it is enough to drive an automatic car. This removes the need to change gears manually, so if you are unable to push pedals or use a gear stick, this will be enough to help you.

For others, it isn’t so simple. You might need to have the steering wheel adapted if you struggle to turn it, or you may need to have the ability to get into your car without leaving your wheelchair. In this case, it may be more practical to have an adapted van.
